This shelter is designed specifically for feral cats and stubborn cats that will not use a regular cat house. Constructed of Cedar a natural flea and insect repellent, It is open so the cat will not feel trapped. The cat is warmed with a 150 watt infrared bulb in the top covered by a grill to be safe. Then there is a durable heating pad in the bottom. The shelter includes straw bedding heaped up around the sides to insulate the cat. Interior of the box measures 14"x14" the roof overhangs several inches on all sides to keep out the rain. The bottom is insulated. Place the shelter in a spot that is as protected from the wind as possible and Kitty will be comfy. Both the heating pad and the infrared bulb are connected to an adjustable thermostat so you do not have to worry about the heat being on during warm weather.Has a 20 ft cord. This shelter uses about the same electricity as a couple of light bulbs.
PLEASE NOTE, THE SOLE PURPOSE OF THE THERMOSTAT IN THIS PARTICULAR SHELTER IS TO TURN THE HEATLAMP OFF WHEN THE WEATHER GETS TOO WARM. BECAUSE THIS IS AN OPEN SHELTER THE HEAT HAS TO BE ON CONSTANTLY BUT THE BULB USES VERY LITTLE ELECTRICITY.
The winter of 2013-2014 was a true test for our Sanctuary. We have one of these set up on our property with a camera for neighborhood strays and there is always a cat in it. Even when the temp dropped to minus 7 with a windchill of minus 25 there was a cat in this shelter warm and cozy.

We do not guarantee that every cat will use one of our houses, though most do the customer has to determine if their cat will use a house BEFORE ORDERING. It takes a lot of patience and usually some cold weather to get a cat to use a house for the first time, but once they do they will be in it all the time. If you need multiple houses we suggest ordering one and trying it out first. DO NOT ORDER ONE OF OUR OUTDOOR CAT HOUSES FOR INDOOR USE, IT WILL NOT WORK
As for getting the cat to use the House, it takes a lot of patience and some coaxing. People have the most success using canned cat food because it has strong smell, especially fish. What you do is place the food right in front of the Pod door for several days. Then move the food right inside the door propping the flap open inward so the cat has to stick its head inside the Pod to eat. Do this for several days, then move the food all the way inside the Pod with the flap. At first the cat might just go in eat the food and leave but he will remember this as a place to go when he needs shelter.
